Devils bested by Dragons

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fought with the Cortland Red Dragons to a 17-6 loss.

The Blue Devils (5-3) struggled in the first half to an 11-3 defecit at halftime, with the final Cortland goal coming at 29:54.

Christine Zaganiaczyk (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the Blue Devil offense with three goals. Katie Monaghan (Fairport/Fairport) had two goals, while Carrie Halstead (Penfield/Webster-Schroeder) had one. Leading the scoring for the Red Dragons was Andrea Venditti (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), with four goals.

Cortland goalie substituted goalie Michelle Zimmer(Skaneateles/Skaneateles) faced 11 shots, with five goals. The Red Dragons substituted Deanne Abell(Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) for Zimmer with 13:48 left in the second half. Abell faced nine shots, one making it through to score.

Blue Devil goalkeeper Sarah Wright (Rochester/Irondequoit) made six saves on 23 shots.

The Blue Devils are now at 1-1 in the SUNYAC. They take this record into their game Tuesday vs. Geneseo. Game time is 4 p.m.
