Geneseo rallies past Blue Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Geneseo scored three goals in the final minute of the first half to gain command and claim a 17-9 SUNYAC victory Tuesday over Fredonia State.

A goal by Laura Kitts (Camilus) with :39 seconds left until the half forged a 5-5 tie and erased what was once a two-goal lead by the Blue Devils (5-4, 1-2 SUNYAC).

Emily Ward (East Hampton) put her team ahead to stay with an unassisted goal with :16 seconds left, then added to the lead with :03 left with another unassisted goal. The Blue Knights (6-2, 3-1 SUNYAC) then gained command by scoring seven straight goals to start the second half.

Christie Zaganiaczyk (Lancaster) had four goals to lead the Blue Devil offense. Carrie Halsteaad (Penfield/Webster-Schroeder) added two goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Sarah Wright (Rochester/Irondequoit) was credited with 11 saves.

Geneseo goalkeeper Hannah McKee (Ithaca) stopped nine shots. Ward was the top scorer with five goals while Maggie Benham (Canandaigua) had three and three players had two goals each.

Fredonia State returns to action on the road Wednesday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
