Cortland rolls over Blue Devils

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Cortland's Rachel Cornwell had six goals and one assist to lead the Red Dragons (4-5, 1-0 SUNYAC) to a 14-4 SUNYAC home win over Fredonia State.

The Blue Devils (4-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) led 2-1 midway through the first half on a pair of goals by senior attacker Christie Zaganiaczyk (Lancaster), the second coming with 14:16 left in the half. Cortland took command with five unanswered goals to close out the first half. Zaganiaczyk's third goal of the game broke the string 52 seconds into the second half. The Blue Devils were outscored 7-1 the rest of the way, with senior midfielder Stephanie Maderer (Orchard Park) accounting for the lone Blue Devil tally.

The Blue Devils were outshot 28-19 with Cortland goalkeeper Deanne Abell getting credit for nine saves. Fredonia State senior Sarah Wright (Rochester/Irondequoiut) made five saves.

The Blue Devils are back in action Tuesday when they play host to SUNY Oswego at 4 p.m. on the University Stadium turf field.
