Cortland senior hits for 42 points

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Cortland senior Dave Maggiacomo (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) had 42 points in a 74-66 come-from-behind SUNYAC win over Fredonia State.

Maggiacomo was 14 of 18 from the field, including 10 of 12 from three-point range, and sophomore Carson Niehoff (West Islip/West Islip) added 19 points for the Red Dragons (5-8, 1-3 SUNYAC).

Senior forward Kevin Reichlmayr (Rochester/Aquinas) had 20 points for the Blue Devils (2-10, 0-5 SUNYAC). He was 9 of 11 from the field. It was his 11th straight game scoring in double figures.

The Blue Devils led 35-29 at halftime and were up by nine points twice in the second half, including a 45-36 lead on a basket by senior Taha Alassari (Bronx/Sweet Home) with 15:26 remaining.

The Red Dragons took command with a 27-8 run. Maggiacomo had 18 points during the run, with four treys during the stretch.

Junior forward Adam Smith (Fredonia/Fredonia) added 14 points for the Blue Devils, while freshman Brad Cooper (Forestburgh/Monticello) had 10.

Next game for Fredonia State is Tuesday at Geneseo.
