Conference co-leaders hang on over Devils

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State started quickly in both halves Fridaym, but were unable to keep Oswego from rallying for a 58-54 SUNYAC home win.

The Blue Devils (8-9, 3-6 SUNYAC) led by as many as seven points in the early minutes of the game, and by six points early in the second half.

A three-point basket by junior Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) gave Fredonia State its final lead, 42-39, with 8:32 left in the game. The teams were tied twice after that -- and 10 times overall -- before the Lakers (15-3, 9-1), co-leaders of the conference, took the lead for good on a basket by Kyle Reuter with 5:30 showing.

The Blue Devils pulled within two points but could get no closer despite having two possessions to do so.

Alassari finished with a team-high 19 points and senior Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) added 12. Senior Tim Anderson (Jamestown/Jamestown) led Fredonia State with 10 rebounds.

The Blue Devils are back in SUNYAC action Saturday at New Paltz.
