Anderson, Alassari lead Devils over Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Senior guard Tim Anderson (Jamestown/Jamestown) had 25 points, including a three-pointer to put his team in the lead for good, in Fredonia State's 70-59 non-conference road win over Houghton.

Junior guard Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) had a double-double for the Blue Devils (4-6) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. He also had a team-high four steals.

The Blue Devils took command with a 23-5 run midway through the game. Anderson started the run and broke the final tie of the game when he connected on a trey with 6:51 left in the first half for a 21-18 Blue Devil lead. He added another basket and Alassari had six points as the Blue Devils took a 31-22 lead into intermission.

Fredonia State opened the second half with a 10-2 burst in a span of 1:22. Three-point baskets by junior Matt Moore (Fredonia/Fredonia) and senior Mike Kelly (Corning/Corning East) and layups by Alassari and junior Kevin Reichlmayr (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) accounted for the Blue Devil points.

The Blue Devils play their first home game of 2006 when they entertain Thiel 8 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall.
