Up in the first half by double digits, and down in the second by as many as 15 points, the Spartans (3-0) reclaimed the lead, 72-69, on a three-point basket by Charles Walker (Buffalo) with :23 seconds left. Fredonia State pulled to within one point, 72-71, on two free throws by sophomore guard Brad Cooper (Forestburgh/Monticello) with :08 left. D'Youville's Matthew Baker (Perry) made the front end of a two-shot foul to push the margin out to two points. He missed the second shot, Fredonia State rebounded, and a desperation three-point attempt by sophomore guard Kevin Saunders (Batavia) rattled off the glass and the rim as time expired. Senior center Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua) led the Blue Devils (0-3) with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists while Saunders had 15 points, five steals, and four assists off the bench. Cooper added 12 points for the Blue Devils, who trailed 37-29 at halftime, only to roar back to take their largest of the game, 64-49, on a steal by Gordon and long pass ahead to Saunders for a layup with 10:04 remaining. The Blue Devils went cold and managed just three points over the next eight minutes. Walker finished with 23 points to lead D'Youville while DeJuan Hardy (Buffalo/Riverside) added 13.
