Bengals down Devils

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo State dealt the Devils a 90-76 loss in the SUNYAC opener for both teams.

The Bengal's Gregg Jones led all scorers with 31 points. He connected on a school-record eight three-pointers.

Tim Anderson (Jamestown/Jamestown) led the Devils with 17 points, including a perfect eight for eight from the free throw line. Mike Kelly (Corning/Corning East) had 16 points off the bench.

Buffalo State (4-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) shot 67% (21 for 32) in the first half as Jones went six of six from the field and four of four from three-point range. The Bengals led 51-37 at the intermission.

Buffalo State remained hot in the second stanza, extending its lead to as many as 20 points, before claiming the 14-point win. The Bengals shot 59% (35 for 59) from the field for the game, and 67% (10 for 15) from beyond the arc. Fredonia hit 40% (23 for 57) from the field and connected on 33% (six for 18) of its three-point attempts.

Others in double-figures for Fredonia State were Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) with 15 and Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) with 12 points.

Fredonia State (2-2, 0-1) is back in action Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 when both the women and men travel to Cortland and Oneonta.
