Devils move to Dods for 2007 home finale

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The final Fredonia State home sporting event of the year will be played Saturday night in an old, familiar place.

The men's basketball game between the Blue Devils and the Medaille Mavericks has been moved to Dods Hall, the team's former home before construction of Steele Hall. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Blue Devils bring a two-game winning streak and a 2-4 record into the game. The Mavericks are 6-2.

"With the exception of our record," Blue Devil head coach Kevin Moore said, "I think we are very similar teams. We both run pretty much the same offense and both teams are playing great defense right now."

The Blue Devils have allowed 60 points or fewer in four games, including the last two -- a 57-56 victory at Pitt-Bradford, followed by a 76-59 win at SUNYIT. Their opponents shot just under 35 percent (37 of 106) from the field in the two wins.

The Mavericks have been the more prolific offensive team, outscoring opponents by an average of over four points per game (80.1 for; 75.8 against).

Medaille is coached by former Canisius College head coach Mike McDonald. After winning four games combined in the two seasons before McDonald arrived, the Mavs are 17-16 with him at the helm.

"Coach McDonald," Moore said, "has done a tremendous job of instilling a winning attitude in their program and they are playing with a lot of confidence right now. We are going to have our hands full."
