With 1.6 seconds remaining, junior guard Wayne Davis (Binghamton) inbounded to Bryant to the left of the basket and Bryant's short jumper was true as time expired. The win was the third straight for the Blue Devils (3-4). It was also their final game of the first semester. Davis and junior guard Rich Buckmon (Syracuse/Heninger) had 13 points each while senior center Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua) had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots. The Blue Devils had a decisive 37-25 advantage on the boards. Senior guard James McNeil (Erie, Pa.) led the Mavericks (6-3) with a game-high 27 points, while freshman guard Ricky Reed (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) converted a three-point play -- a driving layup and a free throw -- with 28 seconds to forge a 60-60 tie. There were nine ties in the game and 12 lead changes with Fredonia State owning the game's largest lead, 18-11, on a three-point basket by senior forward Adam Smith (Fredonia) at the 9:03 mark of the first half. The Mavericks rallied back to take a 27-25 lead into intermission.
