Oneonta gets hot in overtime vs. Devils

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta made five straight shots at the start of overtime to pull out a 67-54 SUNYAC win over Fredonia State.

The Blue Devils (2-4, 0-3 SUNYAC) forced the overtime on a three-point basket by senior guard Mike Kelly (Corning/Corning East) with :08 left in regulation.

Oneonta's Eric Bratt put his team into the lead, 53-51, with a layup 20 seconds into the overtime. The Red Dragons (3-4, 1-2) then pulled away.

Kelly and junior guard Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) scored 14 points each for the Blue Devils, who never led but trailed by no more than nine points during regulation.

Down 47-38 with 4:44 left, Kelly made a pair of free throws to start a 13-4 closing run resulting in a 51-51 tie at the end of regulation. Kelly had five points while Alassai and junior forward Kevin Reichlmayr (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) scored four points each during the run.

Reichlmayr blocked three shots to lead the Blue Devils. Alassari and senior forward Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) shared a team rebounding lead with seven each.

The Blue Devils play their first home game of the season Tuesday when they entertain St. John Fisher at 7:30 p.m.
