Blue Devils prevail in overtime

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Freshman guard Brad Cooper (Forestburgh/Monticello) scored six points in overtime to help carry Fredonia State to a 78-74 SUNYAC home win over SUNYIT.

Cooper, with 16 points, was one of five players in double figures for the Blue Devils (6-15, 3-10 SUNYAC), who were 4 of 5 from the field, 2 of 2 from three-point range, and 4 of 4 from the foul line during the overtime.

Senior guard Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) led the attack with 19 points, including an overtime trey. He also had a team-high five assists.

Senior forward Kevin Reichlmayr (Rochester/Aquinas) had a double-double -- his fourth of the season -- with 15 points and 14 rebounds, junior forward Adam Smith (Fredonia/Fredonia) added 13 points, and freshman guard Kevin Saunders (Batavia/Batavia) had 11 points. He also canned an overtime trey.

The Wildcats (14-9, 8-6 SUNYAC) were led in scoring by Chris Reaves with 19 points. Antoine Gilkes had 17, Elvis Belone 15 points, and Chris LaBoard 13. Gilkes led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds.

Fredonia State led at halftime, 36-32, and were up by as many as six points in the second half. The Wildcats battled back to forge a 63-63 tie with 2:27 remaining in regulation on a three-pointer by Chris Plante.

SUNYIT took its only lead of the second half, 64-63, on a free throw by Reaves with 1:23 to go, only to have Reichlmayr tie the game with a free throw. He also had a chance to win the game but his fastbreak layup rolled out as time expired.

The win avenged the Blue Devils' 72-56 loss when the teams met Jan. 26 at Utica.
