Big second half keeps playoff hopes alive

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- BUFFALO, NY— Brad Cooper (Monticello/ Monticello) scored a game-high 29 points to lead Fredonia State (7-16, 4-10 SUNYAC) to a 79-70 victory at Buffalo State (7-14, 4-10 SUNYAC) and keep its playoff hope alive in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Sports Arena.

Rich Buckmon (Syracuse/ Heninger) added 23 points, including 12 of 12 shooting from the free-throw line.

James Tyndal (Bronx/ Msgr. Scanlon) led Buffalo State with 21 points and six assists. Jamar Gray (Rochester/ Bishop Kearney) added 20 points.

Each team held the lead on multiple occasions in the first half with the Bengals taking a 29-28 lead into the intermission. Fredonia State exploded out of the locker room, however, capitalizing on an 11-0 run and building a lead of as many as 18 points. The Bengals mounted a late rally, cutting the deficit to seven, but it was too little, too late. Fredonia State shot 52 percent from the floor, compared to 43 percent shooting by Buffalo State.

Fredonia State is home 8 p.m. Friday vs. Oswego before closing out the regular season 4 p.m. Saturday at home vs. Morrisville State.
