Senior center Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua) led a balanced Blue Devil attack with 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Wayne Davis (Binghamton) added 14 points, sophomore guard Kevin Saunders (Batavia) had 11, and junior guard Rich Buckmon (Syracuse) 10. Fredonia State shot 62.5 percent from the field (30 of 48) to counteract a 1 of 8 night from the foul line. The only Blue Devil free throw -- by Buckmon -- came with 0:00.1 left in the contest. Nick Perioli (Liverpool) had 20 points for Oswego, which trailed by as many as 12 points before closing out the first half with an 11-0 run. The Lakers (17-6, 11-4 SUNYAC) held leads as large as five points in the second half before Fredonia State closed out the game with a flourish. With the score 60-60, the ninth tie of the game, junior guard Brad Cooper (Monticello) hit a jumper with 3:07 left. Fredonia State added to its lead when Gordon fed freshman Julius Bryant (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) for a layup in the low post. Oswego cut its deficit to two points twice thereafter and had a chance to tie one final time in the final seconds but two shots missed the mark. The Blue Devils (8-16, 5-10 SUNYAC) remained tied with Buffalo State for fourth place in SUNYAC's West Division. The Bengals were 94-63 winners Friday over Morrisville State. That means the final playoff spot for the eight-team tournament will be determined Saturday afternoon -- the last day of the regular season. The Blue Devils entertain Morrisville State at 4 p.m. while Buffalo State plays host to Oswego. ------- Athletics Home | Fredonia Home
