Playoff chances remain alive

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State kept its playoff chances alive with a 76-72 victory Tuesday over Buffalo State.

Four players scored in double figures for the Blue Devils (8-14, 4-10 SUNYAC), who are bound for Geneseo on Friday before closing out the regular season at home Saturday vs. Cortland.

Sophomore Taha Alassari (Amherst/Sweet Home) and junior Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) had 13 points each. Junior Chris Donahue (Olean/Olean) and junior Tim Anderson (Jamestown/Jamestown) each had 11 points.

Jay Newton (Jamestown/Jamestown) led Buffalo State with 18 points.

The Blue Devils led 40-28 at halftime, only to have the Bengals (10-13, 5-10) rally in the second half and lead twice by three points.

Fredonia State regained the lead for good on a basket by sophomore Kevin Reichlmayer (Rochester/Aquinas) with 4:42 to play. With 2:02 left, Alassari put the Blue Devils up by five points when he banked a long three-point basket from straight-on just before the 35-second shot clock expired.
