Balanced attack brings skid to halt

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Five players scored in double figures as Fredonia State rallied to defeat SUNYIT, 73-70, at Steele Hall.

Junior Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) led the balanced attack with 15 points, plus seven rebounds.

Junior Tim Anderson (Jamestown/Jamestown) had a double-double: 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Taha Alassari (Amherst/Sweet Home) added 12 points, six steals, and four assists.

Freshman Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) and sophomore Kevin Reichlmayr (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Losers of five straight games before Friday, the Blue Devils (7-10, 3-6) led 39-33 at halftime, only to have SUNYIT (5-11, 1-7) rally and lead by as many as six points during the second half.

The Wildcats saw their lead slowly dwindle and disappear altogther when Watkins made three free throws to put Fredonia State up 66-64 with 3:47 to go.

SUNYIT took its final lead, 68-66, on a three-point basket by Chantal Bien-Aime (Nyack) with :56 left. Watkins put Fredonia State back in the lead with a basket with :35 left. Two free throws by Chris Donahue (Olean/Olean) and one by Anderson kept SUNYIT at bay.

The Blue Devils take on Plattsburgh 4 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall.
