Denison defeats Devils in Resler consolation

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fredonia State fell to Denison University, 85-73, in the consolation game Saturday of the University of Rochester's Chuck Resler Invitational.

For the Blue Devils (0-2), sophomore Taha Alassari (Amherst/Sweet Home) was selected to the all-tournament team after scoring 19 points. Alassari was 7 of 12 from the field, 6 of 9 in the second half. Junior Nate Sanzo (Westfield/Wsetfield) added 12 points.

For the Big Red (1-1), four players scored in double figures, led by Robb Hern with 21 points.

The Blue Devils led twice by four points (13-9 and 34-30), the second time on a three-point basket by junior Randall Thomas (Bronx/Ryan Academy, Va.) with 5:13 until halftime.

Denison's Hern had two baskets during a 10-0 run which led to his team's 46-40 halftime lead. The Big Red were shooting 62.5 percent at the break (15 of 24), and finished at 58.5 percent in the game.

Fredonia State opens the home portion of their season 8 p.m. Tuesday against D'Youville at Steele Hall.
