The Devils (11-3-1, 5-2-0 SUNYAC) used a pair of Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier) second-half goals to down the Golden Eagles (13-1-0, 6-1-0 SUNYAC). Brockport is currently ranked No. 11 nationally. The teams played to a scoreless first half, even though both did manage to put the ball in the net. Fredonia State's Jason Januskiewiczy's (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) sideline throw-in traveled all the way into the goal. However, the Devils were whistled for interfering with Brockport goalkeeper Chris Bedford (Penfield/Maine Central Institute) and the score was nullified. Brockport's Josh Piscitelli (Batavia/Byron-Bergen) knocked in a loose ball following a scramble in front of the Fredonia net. An offsides went against the Golden Eagles and the goal was reversed. Mahaffey opened the scoring 18:56 into the second half. He was assisted by Trevor Ianni. Just under five minutes later, Mahffey put in his second goal of the contest, this one unassisted. Fredonia State's defense was credited with their 11th shutout of the season. They also snapped a five-game goal-scoring streak of Piscitelli's. The sophomore had scored eight goals in his previous five games. The two goals against Brockport was the first time all season that they gave up more than one goal in a game. Bedford finished with five saves for the Golden Eagles. Senior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) made three saves for Fredonia State. The Blue Devils outshot Brockport 15-12. The Devils are back in action Saturday at Steele Hall where they will meet Geneseo in another important SUNYAC game. Geneseo is 4-1-2 in conference play. They played Buffalo State to a 1-1 tie earlier today.
