Devils blank Bengals, 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State guaranteed itself one of the top two seeds in the SUNYAC Tournament with a 1-0 road win Wednesday over Buffalo State.

A goal by freshman Peter Dagel (Rochester/Gates Chili) in the 66th minute and shutout goaltending by senior Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonasen) enabled the Blue Devils to improve to 10-5-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the SUNYAC with one conference game remaining.

The only team that can pass the Blue Devils in the standings, the Brockport Eagles, are the next opponent 1 p.m. Saturday at Brockport.

Dagel scored his fourth goal of the season on a one-timer from the right wing across the front of the goal. Sophomore Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard Park) earned the assist.

Meanwhile, Bergen was called on to make only one save in order to post his third shutout of the season. The Blue Devils outshot the Bengals (8-6-2, 5-4-1 SUNYAC), 13-6, while the Blue Devils had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
