Devils fall for first time in the SUNYAC

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's bid for an unbeaten SUNYAC regular season ended Friday with a 3-1 loss at Geneseo.

Ken Zawistowski had one goal and two assists for Geneseo, which can win the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament with either a win today vs. Buffalo State.

The Blue Devils (10-5-1, 7-1-0 SUNYAC) can still earn the No. 1 seed with a win Saturday at Brockport (1 p.m.) coupled with a loss or tie by Geneseo. Any other scenario results in the Blue Devils receiving the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.

All the scoring was done in the second half, starting with a goal by Zawistowski in the 47th minute. Fredonia State senior midfielder Alex Parker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) forged a 1-1 tie with third goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Junior midfielder Rob Esposito (Dover Plains/Dover) picked up an assist for it was his free kick that set up Parker's goal.

Geneseo's Kyle Pucko netted the game-winning goal in the 57th minute, while Judah Manetta added insurance in the 61st minute for the hosts.
