Devils fall to Hobart in final minute

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State dropped its final regular-season game, 2-1, to Hobart College in the final minute of regulation.

A header by Hobart's Tyler Webster off a corner kick by teammate Grant Morrison broke a 1-1 tie with 49 seconds remaining.

The first Utica goal was the result of a Fredonia State player putting the ball into their own net. It came in the 31st minute and erased a short-lived Fredonia State lead. The Blue Devils (11-6-1) gained a 1-0 advantage on a goal by senior Rob Esposito (Dover Plains/Dover), his fifth of the season, on a free kick from 22 yards out in the 28th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonasen) made nine saves.

The Blue Devils turn their attention to the SUNYAC Tournament, which begins with quarterfinal games Tuesday on on-campus sites. They will be paying particular attention to the outcome of the Buffalo State at Cortland match. The winner advances to face the No. 1 seed Blue Devils in one semifinal 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hall of Fame Fields in Oneonta.
