Junior midfielder Chris Huber (Horseheads) scored with 4:18 remaining to complete a Blue Devil comeback which began following a 1-0 halftime deficit. The Blue Devils (8-5-0, 6-1-0 SUNYAC) knotted the score in the 51st minute on a goal by freshman midfielder Eli Lubberts (Ontario/Wayne). Sophomore forward Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard)O'Donnell set up the goal with a nifty move and pass, leaving Lubberts only to tap the ball into the net. The winning goal came after a long run and shot by senior forward Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili) was blocked by Cortland junior goalkeeper Jack Carillo (Cornwall/Ramapo). The rebound went to O'Donnell, then quickly to Huber, who settled the ball and popped the ball past Carillo for his second goal of the season. O'Donnell was credited with his second assist of the night. Cortland took a 1-0 lead on a goal by senior forward Bryan Patterson (Farmingdale) in the 13th minute. Junior midfielder Lasse Grosz (Hamburg, Germany) set up the goal with a long run up the right sideline. He ran past two defenders before crossing a pass into the box, which Patterson settled and fired high into the net past Fredonia State senior goalkeeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonasen). Bergen preserved the victory when, with 1 second remaining, he deflected over the net a high blast by Cortland's Dan Dunn (Warwick/Warwick Valley). The win was the fourth straight for the Blue Devils, and the seventh win in their last eight games. The broke out of a five-way tie for second place behind Oneonta, which is ineligible for the SUNYAC Tournament this fall. Therefore, the team finishing second will earn the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament. The Blue Devils have four SUNYAC games remaining. The loss dropped the Red Dragons to 8-4-0 overall, 5-3-0 in the conference.
