Two late Plattsburgh goals stun Blue Devils

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Two Plattsburgh goals in the final 1:39 sent Fredonia State to a heartbreaking 2-1 SUNYAC loss.

Tim Stanley scored both Plattsburgh goals, the first at 88:21 and the game-winner on a header at 89:05, to drop the Blue Devils to 10-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Cardinals, preseason favorites to win the SUNYAC title, improved to 11-1-0 and 5-1-0.

Junior midfielder Alex Parker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) scored the Fredonia State goal. Assisted by senior midfielder Michael Battisti (Brockport/Brockport), Parker scored his first goal of the season to put the Blue Devils in front, 1-0, at 40:50.

The Blue Devils were trying to record their 10th consecutive shutout, and pass the 1994 Plattsburgh team in the NCAA record book (they are tied for ninth all-time in the category), before Stanley scored.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) extended his streak of not allowing a goal to 987:21 consecutive minutes, No. 3 on the NCAA Division III all-time list.

The Blue Devils have allowed only six goals in 13 games this fall. They visit Potsdam on Saturday.
