Trip to Grand Rapids means meeting host team again

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Calvin College of Grand Rapids, Mich., has been chosen as the site of the NCAA Division III men's soccer sectional where Fredonia State will compete next.

As a result, the Blue Devils (17-3-3) will be playing on the home field of their opponent for the second straight NCAA game.

Calvin (17-4-1) advanced to sectionals by upsetting No. 2 ranked Ohio Wesleyan, 2-1, on the heels of a 4-0 first-round win over Edgewood.

The Blue Devils reached the Round of 16 by defeating Canegie Mellon in the first round, 4-3, in double overtime, and host John Carroll in the second round, 1-0, in overtime.

Also bound for the Grand Rapids, Mich., sectional are Loras College (18-3-1) of Dubuque, Iowa, and Gustavus Adolphus College (15-2-3) of Saint Peter, Minn. They will play their semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Fredonia State vs. Calvin semifinal set to begin 30 minutes after the first game, but no earlier than 1 p.m.

The sectional final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Other sectional hosts are Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash.; the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.Y.; and Plattsburgh State, where the host Cardinals (20-1-0) will meet Western New England at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

All four sectional winners advance to national semifinals Nov. 25 at Greensboro, N.C.
