Blue Devils ranked in two preseason polls

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A strong finish in 2005 has enabled the Fredonia State men's soccer team to catch the attention of national pollsters heading into the 2006 season.

The National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America have placed the Blue Devils at No. 15 in their NCAA Division III preseason poll, released Aug. 15. It's the same position the Blue Devils held at the end of the 2005 season.

Also, D3Kicks.com have placed the at No. 21 in its first-ever poll, released Monday. Twenty-three Sports Information Directors and the two D3Kicks.com co-founders participated in the rankings, which will continue throughout the season.

The Blue Devils advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round in 2005 and posted an overall record of 17-4-4. They open their 2006 season Sept. 1 in a meeting of nationally ranked teams vs. Wheaton, Ill., in Wheaton's own Bob Baptista Invitational. Wheaton is ranked No. 13 in the D3Kicks.com preseason rankings while another of the tourney participants, Wilmington College (Ohio), is listed as also receiving votes.

The Blue Devils' home opener is Sept. 5 vs. Medaille.
