Nazareth blanks Devils in season opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Two first-half goals carried host Nazareth College to a 2-0 victory over Fredonia State on the first day of the Doug May Classic.

The game was the first of the season for the visiting Blue Devils, who are back in action Saturday vs. Rochester Institute of Technology. Game time is 3 p.m.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime of the opener, the Blue Devils had the better of the action in the second half. They outshot their hosts, 7-0, and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Also during the second half, a bid to avoid the shutout was thrwarted when a shot by freshman forward Peter Dagel (Rochester/Gates Chili) banged off the post.
