Blue Devils roll over Potsdam

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Senior forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier) and freshman forward Steve Tamtakiridis (Toronto, Ont./East York Collegiate) had two goals each as Fredonia State rolled over Potsdam, 7-0, on the Brigham Road Field.

Mahaffey also added an assist to give him seven points in two games, including the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win Friday over Plattsburgh. Tamtakiridis also had three goals in the two weekend games.

Junior forward Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili), senior midfielder Alex Parker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon), and junior midfielder Rob Esposito (Dover Plains/Dover) had one goal and one assist each vs. Potsdam. Senior defender Jeff Morsch (Fairport/Fairport) collected three assists.

In goal, starter Scott Bergen (Schnectady/Mohonasen) made three saves over the first 58 minutes. Sophomore Mike Tarkett (Pine City/Horseheads) followed in net and made two saves over 26 minutes. Freshman Tom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) finished and had one save in the final six minutes.

The Blue Devils (4-3-0, 2-0-0 SUNYAC) took 26 shots to 13 for the Bears (2-4-1, 0-2-0). Of Fredonia State's 26 shots, nine were on net and seven ended up in goal.

Three straight non-conference games and five straight road games are on tap for the Blue Devils starting with a night game (7 p.m.) Wed., Sept. 20, at Alfred University.
