Devils roll over New Paltz

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Two players had two goals each and a third player had a three-point game as the Fredonia State men improved to 2-0 in SUNYAC with a 6-2 home win over the New Paltz Hawks.

Senior midfielder Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili) and freshman midfielder Eli Lubberts (Ontario/Wayne) each had two goals. For Lubberts, they were his first two goals as a collegian, while Ianni has three goals this season.

Senior midfielder Rob Esposito (Dover Plains/Dover) had one goal and two assists for the Blue Devils, 4-4-0 overall and winners of three straight games. In addition, freshman midfielder John Grabowski (Middleport/Royalton-Hartland) tallied his first collegiate goal.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonasen) allowed one goal and made two saves in nearly 65 minutes of duty. Sophomre Tom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville) allowed one goal and made two saves in nearly 19 minutes, while junior Andy Feldmann (Silver Creek) was in net for the final 4:53 and didn't face a shot.

For the Hawks (0-6-0, 0-2-0), senior Justin Thompson (Babylon) and sophomore Anton Shipman (Howard Beach/Molloy) netted their team's first two goals of the season. Thompson's tally -- inthe 16th minute -- put the visitors up 1-0. It was also their first lead of the season.

The Blue Devils responded with five unanswered goals. They outshot their opponent 28-11, and had a 10-6 edge in corner kicks.

Fredonia State is back in action 1 p.m. Saturday v Oneonta at University Stadium.
