Junior forward Steve Lesmes (Fredonia/Fredonia) had just re-entered the game when he eluded a John Carroll player and sent a short cross to Gentner, who was open in the middle of the field. Gentner made no mistake with a hard, low shot past John Carroll goalkeeper Joseph Kennedy (Geneva/Geneva) at 85:01. It was Gentner's second goal of the season. Fredonia State senior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) earned his seventh shutout of the season by making five saves. It was Fredonia State's seventh straight shutout as a team. The Blue Devils (8-1-1), ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division III Northeast Region poll, took 16 shots, led by junior forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier), with four. John Carroll's Kennedy made five saves. The Blue Streaks (2-5-0) took eight shots, and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Fredonia State is back in action Fri., Sept. 30, in a SUNYAC game at Cortland.
