Road win for Blue Devils is no shocker

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- Senior midfielder Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili) scored twice and four teammates had one goal each as Fredonia State rolled past Morrisville State, 6-1, ahead of a game-ending lightning storm.

Ianni scored in the 16th minute for a 2-0 Blue Devil lead after junior midfielder Chris Lindner (Fairport) opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal, an unassisted tally in the ninth minute.

Whatever doubt was left was erased when Ianni scored again in the 47th minute. It was his team-high sixth goal of the season and his 16th as a collegiate. He has 39 career points.

Adding second-half insurance goals for the Blue Devils (5-5-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) were senior Rob Esposito (Dover Plains/Dover), sophomore Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard Park), and freshman Brett Wysocki (Gansevoort/Columbia). Wysocki's goal, his first as a collegian, came in the 74th minute. Shortly thereafter, the game was stopped because of lightning. When the storm lingered, the game was declared official with 14:57 remaining.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonasen) earned the victory with four saves. The lone blemish was a Morrisville State goal in the 58th minute by Tyler Sullivan.

Esposito had an assist in addition to his goal for the Blue Devils. Junior midfielder Sam Stewart (Jamestown) also earned an assist.

The Blue Devils remain in Central New York for a 1 p.m. SUNYAC road game Saturday at SUNYIT.
