O'Donnell breaks through in a big way

UTICA, N.Y. -- Freshman forward Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard Park/Ochard Park) did not settle for just his first collegiate goal Friday for Fredonia State.

O'Donnell scored all four goals for the Blue Devils (6-4-1, 3-0-0 SUNYAC) in their 4-0 conference road win at SUNYIT.

Taking a through-pass from senior forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier), O'Donnell collected his first goal in the 30th minute.

He added his second in the 44th minute on a breakaway, his third in the 71st minute on another breakaway, and his fourth in the 74th minute following a cross from sophomore midfielder Scott Gentner (Buffalo/St. Joe's).

Junior forward Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili) and sophomore defender Chris Lindner (Rochester/Fairport) were also credited with assists.

Sophomore Mike Tarkett (Pine City/Horseheads) started in the Fredonia State net and played the first 84 minutes to earn the win. He was relieved by freshman Tom Cavanaugh (Slingerlands/Voorheesville).

The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday afternoon at New Paltz.
