Following the throw-in, sophomore forward Nick Deck (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) headed the ball into the goalmouth. It glanced off freshman forward Ryan O'Donnell (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) to senior midfielder Victor Ianni (Rochester/Gates-Chili). Ianni (pronounced Yanni) directed the ball into the net past Medaille senior goalkeeper Craig Yanni (Hornell/Hornell) with 8:08 left on the Brigham Road Field clock. It was Ianni's first goal of the season and his ninth as a Blue Devil, the most recent during the 2004 season. He missed all of 2005 with a knee injury. The win was also the first of the season for the Blue Devils (1-2), who'll host the Blue Devil Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Mavericks (2-1-0) broke on top 1-0 on senior forward Ryan Mangano (Silver Creek/Silver Creek) took a long lead pass which forced Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Scott Bergen (Schenectady/Mohonassen) far out of his net. Mangano eluded the keeper and tapped the ball into the empty net at the 8:09 mark. The Blue Devils mounted a rally late in the first half resulting in the equalizing goal by senior midfielder Alex Parker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) at 40:02. Parker hit a low hard shot which curled into the upper right corner. The Blue Devils appeared ready to take the lead earlier in the second half, only to have a shot by senior forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier) bang off the post to the left of Yanni. The latter was called upon to make 10 saves, while Bergen made 12 stops for the Blue Devils.
