It was the first collegiate goal for Sharman and sent the Blue Devils (3-1) in search of their third straight Days Inn title. The hosts will meet Houghton College, which defeated nationally ranked New Jersey City University, 3-0, in another first-round game Friday. The championship game is 2 p.m. Saturday. Junior midfielder Michael Battisti (Brockport/Brockport) also scored his first goal of the season Friday. It came in the 67th minute on a set up from sophomore defender Brian Annechino (Rochester/Penfield). Sophomore forward Matt Mahaffey (Lakeview/Frontier) earned as assist on Sharman's game-winning goal. Junior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was credited with four saves. Senior forward Daniel Alberit (Bexley) scored for Capital (0-4) in the 17th minute. In the other first-round game, Houghton's Ernie Walton (Zionsville) scored two goals as the Highlanders (1-3) stunned New Jersey City University (3-1), ranked No. 19 nationally at the start of tke week in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll.
