Second-half goal puts Geneseo past Devils

GENESEO, N.Y. – A goal in the 67th minute sent Geneseo past Fredonia State, 2-1, in SUNYAC men's soccer.

David Aguado's header eluded Fredonia State goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) into the upper left corner and broke a 1-1 tie.

Junior midfielder Michael Battisti (Brockport/Brockport) scored for the Blue Devils (7-5-3, 4-2-2) in the 32nd minute when he finished the play following a direct kick.

Junior forward Vincenzo Alfieri (Rochester/McQuaid) assisted on the Fredonia State goal.

Eric Lauricella gave Geneseo a 1-0 lead at 28:01 with a shot from outside the right box. He also set up Aguado's game-winning goal with a crossing pass.

Borchard finished with three saves. Geneseo goalkeeper Chris Stock made two stops.

The Blue Knights (10-3-1, 5-2-1) had an 11-10 edge in shots.

The loss by Fredonia State is damaging in the SUNYAC standings. They entered the day tied for third place one point behind conference co-leaders Buffalo State and New Paltz.

Geneseo, on the other hand, started the day in sixth place --- but only two points out of first.
