College, 1-0, and earned a second-place finish Sunday in the 13th annual Domino's Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Freshman forward Trevor Ianni (Rochester/Gates Chili) scored in the 60th minute for the game's only goal. Senior midfielder Tim Cupello (Rochester/Aquinas) earned the lone assist for the Blue Devils (2-1). "This is a huge win for us,'' head coach P.J. Gondek said. "Greensboro is always in the NCAA Tournament (and) they are favored to win their league (USA South Conference)." Greensboro has made 12 NCAA appearances -- including each of the last 10 years -- and has won six confernce titles since 1994. The Pride entered the season with a 176-43-17 record sicne 1992. "We outplayed them," Gondek said. "It wasn't that we scored and then dropped back to keep them from scoring. We flat out beat them." In an extremely physical contest, the Blue Devils and Pride each took eight shots. Fredonia State junior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was called on to make one save and earned a place on the all-tournament team. He was joined by Cupello and senior defender Mitch Irish (Cary, N.C./Fairport). The Blue Devils claimed second place following the scoreless tie Sunday between Arcadia and host and tournament champ Roanoke. The tournament saw only two goals scored in four games -- includinng a Roanoke tally in a 1-0 victory over Fredonia State on Saturday.
