Oh, brother! Devils win opener

KEUKA, N.Y. – The Ianni brothers each had a goal in Fredonia State's 3-0 victory over Keuka College in the Blue Devils' season opener.

Mitch Irish added a goal and an assist while goalkeeper Matt Borchard stopped four shots to post the shutout, his eighth as a Blue Devil.

Trevor Ianni, a freshman playing in his first official collegiate game, was credited with his first goal at the 26:43 mark of the first period when a shot deflected into the net off a Keuka player.

Irish made it 2-0 with 14:54 left in the first half, with Tim Cupello receiving credit with an assist off an indirect kick.

Victor Ianni, a junior, scored on a direct kick with 28:33 remaining in the second half.

The Iannis hail from Rochester, N.Y., and attended Gates Chili High School.

For Irish, the three-point game moved him into a tie for 23rd on the Fredonia State all-time scoring list. He has 32 points.
