Mace nets pair as Devils down Oswego, 2-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. – A pair of first-half goals by junior Michael Mace (Elmira/Elmira Notre Dame) and the shutout goalkeeping of junior Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) carried Fredonia State past Oswego State, 2-0, in a SUNYAC game.

Mace scored his first goal 1:07 into the contest, played through a steady and, at times, driving rain. His second goal came with 24:29 left in the first half. Senior Mitch Irish (Cary, N.C./Fairport) was credited with an assist.

The goals were the first two of the season for Mace.

Borchard made five saves for his sixth shutout of the season and his second in two days. The Blue Devils (6-4-1, 3-1-0) were also 2-0 winners Friday over Cortland State.

Oswego senior goalkeeper John Spuhler (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) allowed both goals and made one save. The Lakers (3-7-1, 0-3-1) were outshot, 19-5.

Fredonia State is back at home next weekend for games Friday vs. Plattsburgh (4 p.m.) and Saturday vs. Potsdam (1 p.m.)
