Men's Soccer

Reserves combine for game-winner in 2-1 victory

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State men's soccer team improved its SUNYAC record to 4-1-1 (7-4-2 overall) with a 2-1 victory over Potsdam (4-10-1, 1-5 SUNYAC).

Fredonia State is 3-0-1 in its last four conference games.

Victor Ianni (Rochester) broke a scoreless tie with his second goal of the year coming off a penalty kick. Seth Calleri (East Aurora) came off the bench and added to the Blue Devils’ lead with his first goal of the season. Another reserve, Dave Krebs (Rochester), added the assist.

The Blue Devils dominated for most of the game, outshooting the Bears 23-3.

Potsdam goalkeeper Adam Youmele (Cornwall, Ont.) provided six saves to keep his team in the game. Fredonia State goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville) improved his record to 6-1-2 on the season. He collected one save while allowing just one goal.

Potsdam's Gary Lee (South Lancaster, Ont.) added a late goal. Lee was assisted on the play by Mustapha Cisse (New York).

The Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 16-5-3.

Fredonia State is on the road next weekend with games Friday at Brockport (3 p.m.) and Saturday at Geneseo (1 p.m.).
