Mike Agbarian (Long Island/Bellmore JFK) scored his second goal of the game with 10:38 remaining and the Golden Eagles (13-3-2) survived a furious Blue Devil attempt to score the tying goal. The best chance came in the 89th minute when a short shot by junior Michael Battisti (Brockport/Brockport) hit the crossbar and bounded away. The Blue Devils (10-6-3) were unable to mount another serious threat. Freshman Lee Wilson (Fairport/Fairport) figured in both Blue Devil goals. Following a corner kick, Wilson connected during a scramble to cut his team's deficit to 2-1 with 19:30 left in the game. Another corner kick and similar scramble led to the tying goal, a header by junior Brandon Derkacz (Hamburg/Hamburg) with 14:45 to go. Wilson was credited with an assist. Agbarian broke the tie with a free kick over a wall of Fredonia State blockers and into the upper right corner of the net from 40 yards out. The Blue Devils had a 17-14 advantage in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Matt Borchard (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished with four saves. Unless the Blue Devils receive an invitation to the ECAC Upstate Tournament, the game was the senior-year finale for midfielder Tim Cupello (Rochester/Aquinas) and defender Mitch Irish (Cary, N.C./Fairport).
