Devils flirt with upset before falling to Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia State came up just short Wednesday in its 122 1/2-107 1/2 loss to Brockport.

Freshman Robert Rumsey (Grand Island/Grand Island) and senior Chris Oaks (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon) were double winners for the Blue Devils, who fell to 3-4 in dual meets.

Rumsey turned in the fourth fastest time this season in the SUNYAC while winning the 200-yard backstroke in 2:03.72. He also won the 200-yard individual medley.

Oaks's double came in the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly.

Head coach Arthur Wang felt his team continued to make progress heading into its quadrangular meet Saturday at home against Case Western, Ithaca, and University of Rochester (1 p.m., Steele Hall Natatorium).

"We were just one or two swims away," Wang said, "from pulling the upset (at Brockport).
