And the freshman class made a very good first impression. Four men competing collegiately for the first time led the Blue Devils to a 143-44 season-opening win over Morrisville State College at the Steele Hall Natatorium. Mike Seay (Grand Island/Grand Island) won three individual events -- the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 100-yard breast stroke. Other triple winners were Alex Palmquist (Olean/Olean), Scott Simpson (Allegany/Allegany-Limestone), and Brent Davis (Albion/Albion). Palmquist won the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, Simpson the 500 free and the 1,000 free, and Davis the 100 free and the 200 free. Each swimming also had a winning relay to his credit. "It was a great start to the season," head coach Arthur Wang said, speaking about both the Blue Devil men and women (157-69 winners). "I was most happy with the way they swam ... the team swam very intelligently, and doing most of the small things well. "Today's experience will help us down the road against our competition."
