Devils' hockey to 'Pink the Rink' on Feb. 8
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- For the second year in a row, the Fredonia State hockey team and the SUNY Fredonia Sport Management students are teaming up for the fight against breast cancer.
Pink the Rink ’08 will be held Friday, February 8th, at the Steele Hall Ice Arena. The Fredonia State Blue Devils will be facing off against SUNYAC rival Cortland at 7 p.m.
“I am so pleased that everyone is so excited about this event,” assistant coach and Sport Management professor Greg Heffernan said. “Coach Meredith and I decided to have special commemorative pink jerseys to be worn by the Fredonia players during the game that night.”
Several of the jerseys worn by the players will be silent auctioned starting February 1 via e-mail as well as at the game itself. Bids for these jerseys can be submitted by e-mail to Coach Heffernan at email@example.com.
There is a minimum $60 reserve bid on each jersey. “At the end of the game, the auction winners will be presented with the game worn jersey on the ice,” Heffernan said.
Last year Pink the Rink raised nearly $1,200 for the American Cancer Society. This year and organizers have set a goal to exceed that amount. Students and fans are not only encouraged to donate but also asked to wear pink to the game for a "Pink out."
“Breast cancer is a disease that touches us all," Heffernan said. "Wear pink on the 8th and support the fight against cancer."
