Icers in north country on all-road weekend

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's hockey team makes its annual trip to the north country for a pair of SUNYAC road games.

The Blue Devils (10-5-3) take a five-game winning streak into their Friday night game at Plattsburgh, then it's on to Potsdam for a Saturday night game. The puck drops at 7 p.m. each night, and both games will be broadcast by Fredonia Radio Systems on WCVF (88.9 FM).

Fredonia State has been one of the hotter teams in SUNYAC. Counting the five straight wins, the Blue Devils are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games -- including a 2-0-1 mark against SUNYAC teams. "Everything is fitting together right now," Blue Devil head coach Jeff Meredith said. "The guys in their roles and the leadership ... everything has meshed since we've been back from the (semester) break."

After arriving Thursday night at the team hotel in Plattsburgh, Meredith learned senior forward Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) has been chosen as one of 89 nominees for The Pontiac Frozen Four Skills Challenge to be held April 6 at St. Louis. Fans from across the nation can vote online for the 32 finalists (16 men and 16 women) starting Friday through Monday, February 12, at

Bozoian is one of only two NCAA Division III nominees from the east to make the list of finalists.

"What a great honor and a great opportunity for him," Meredith said.

All the other Fredonia State winter teams are also on the road this weekend. The men's and women's basketball teams visit SUNY-IT on Friday, then travel on to Plattsburgh for Saturday games. The swimming and diving teams visit SUNY Oneonta for a double-dual meet vs. the host Red Dragons and Hartwick College. The track and field teams are bound for a Saturday meet at Case Western Reserve University.
