Devils fall in season-opening twinbill

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Errors in both games of a season-opening doubleheader were too difficult for Fredonia State to overcome Friday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The Blue Devils (0-2) made four errors leading to five unearned runs in a 6-2 loss to Wisconsin-Superior. In the second game, the Blue Devils made five errors in the first inning leading to six unearned runs in a 7-0 loss to Keene State.

Offensively, the Blue Devils collected only nine hits, including a two-run homer by freshman Carine Janis (Depew/Depew) in the first game. Eight other players collected one hit each, while freshman Samantha Voncina (Derby/Lake Shore) stole two bases.

The Blue Devils are idle Saturday and return to action Sunday at Chicago at 11 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. game vs. Albright.
