Mazurek pitches one-hitter as Devils split

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Fredonia State right-hander Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) yielded one infield hit Sunday as the Blue Devils defeated Albright College, 5-0, in the second of two games in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The Blue Devils (1-3) scored all of their runs in the second inning. Bree Crossett (Wayland/Wayland-Cohochton) singled to get things going. Andrea DeVon (Elmira/Notre Dame) followed with a single, and Samantha Voncina (Derby/Lake Shore) walked to load the bases.

Jackie Bryant (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) followed with an RBI single, followed by an RBI single by Andrea Cornelius (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield). Another run scored on the play. Samantha Kinkema (Lake City, Mich./N. Mich. Christian) capped the uprising with a two-run single.

Albright's Stevie Crouse broke up Mazurek's no-hitter with a sixth-inning infield single. The Fredonia State right-hander was bidding for her first collegiate gem. Instead, she settled for her 11th career shutout and second one-hitter.

The Blue Devils dropped the first game Sunday, 9-0, to the University of Chicago. Mazurek had two hits in that game, including a double. Freshman right-hander Carine Janis (Depew/Depew) struck out four but took the loss.
