The Blue Devils received solid pitching performances in each game. Senior righthander Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) fanned eight and allowed no earned runs in a 4-2 first-game victory. Freshman lefthander Andrea Cornelius (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) scattered six hits and struck out six in a 8-1 win in the nightcap. In the first game, a walk, a double by senior K.C. Conklin (Hornell/Hornell), and RBI singles by freshmen Jaime Ryan (N. Chili/Churchville-Chili) and Leigh Palmer (Union City, Pa./Union City) staked Mazurek to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The Blue Devils scored twice more in the fifth in an error, a single by Palmer, and a two-run double by freshman Carine Janis (Depew/Depew). In the nightcap, freshman Andrea DeVon (Elmira/Notre Dame) had three singles to lead a 10-hit attack. She was involved in two of the four Blue Devil rallies. In the third inning, DeVon cracked a two-run single following an error, a walk, and an RBI single by Mazurek. In the seventh, DeVon led off the inning with a single and scored on an infield groundout by junior Meghan Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore). In addition, the Blue Devils scored two runs in the second inning when a Mazurek single was followed by a walk and a two-run Wooster error. In the sixth, a single by Ryan was followed by another Wooster error and a two-run double by Samantha Voncina (Derby/Lake Shore). The Blue Devils are idle Wednesday before closing out their Florida swing with two games Thursday, 11 a.m. vs. Franklin Pierce and 1 p.m. vs. Albright, both at the Lee County Complex in Fort Myers. Their first game up north is March 31 at SUNYIT.
