Devils fall to Babson, UW-Superior

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fredonia State batters were limited to one run in two games Saturday during their second day at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Babson downed the Blue Devils (1-3) in the first game of the day, 2-0. University of Wisconsin-Superior followed with a 6-1 triumph. Both games were played at the Lee County Complex.

Against Babson, Fredonia State had its chances but left seven runners on base. Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohochton) had two singles to lead a seven-hit attack. Brittany Connell (Geneva/Geneva) and Meghan Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) each had a double. Sullivan's came as a pinch-hitter.

The pitching loss went to Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk). Only one of the runs she allowed was earned. She also recorded eight strikeouts.

In the same game of the game, Wisconsin-Superior broke open a 2-1 game with four runs in the sixth inning off Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore).

The lone Fredonia State run of the day came in the top of the sixth. Following an error and a walk, Drum delivered an RBI single -- her fourth hit of the day -- with one out in the inning. Two other runners were stranded in the inning.

The Blue Devils return to action Monday with games vs. Massachusetts Intitute of Technology (11 a.m.) and Gustavus Adolphus (1 p.m.) at Cape Coral, Fla.
