Devils split Cusic doubleheader

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fredonia State defeated D'Youville, 9-6, before falling to DePauw, 8-1, Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Junior right-hander Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) improved to 2-2 with the win over D'Youville. Senior right-hander Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) took the loss vs. DePauw.

Against D'Youville, Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph) had two RBI while Sullivan and Brittany Connell (Geneva/Geneva) had two hits each. Connell scored three runs, and Mazurek scored twice.

Relieved at the start of the sixth inning, Mazurek returned to record the final out and quell a D'Youville rally.

Against DePauw, Livermore added two more hits while Meghan Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) brought home the only Fredonia State run with an infield groundout.

The Blue Devils (3-5) are idle Wednesday before closing out their Cusic Classic apperance with two games Thursday: vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m., and vs. Oberlin at 1 p.m.
