Cortland deals two losses to Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell into ninth place in the SUNYAC standings after dropping a doubleheader Saturday to Cortland, 6-2 and 11-0.

The Blue Devils (7-19, 3-9 SUNYAC) trailed 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning of the first game when a dropped flyball led to three unearned insurance runs off junior Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk).

Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph) accounted for the Blue Devil scoring with a two-out double in the fifth inning off winning pitcher Stephanie Adamshick (Milton). Livermore also had a lead-off double in the second inning. Lindsey Drum (Wayland/Wayland-Cohochton) followed with her first of two singles. She advanced to second on a fielder's choice to put runners on second and third with no outs.

Adamshick pitched out of the jam with a strikeout and two pop-outs. Overall, the Blue Devils left six runners stranded.

In Game 2, the Red Dragons (20-8, 10-2 SUNYAC) were dominant in the field and at bat. Winning pitcher Ang D'Amboise (Ballston Spa) allowed one hit -- a single by Ashley Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) with two outs in the fifth and final inning -- and struck out seven.

Dominque Talbot (Rockville Center) and Amanda Barnett (Syracuse) had three hits each to pace a 12-hit Cortland attack off losing pitcher Sarah Burt (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford).

The Blue Devils have seven doubleheaders remaining to close out the regular season -- five on the road, beginning Tuesday at St. John Fisher.
