Freshman's walk-off HR makes winner of fellow freshman

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Meghan Sullivan (Derby/Lake Shore) hit a walk-off homer to send Fredonia State over Penn State Behrend, 3-2, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Monday.

Sullivan's blast was her third of her freshman season and sent freshman Sarah Burt (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) to her second collegiate pitching victory against four losses.

Burt struck out nine, walked one, and scattered eight hits.

The loss dropped Penn State Behrend's record to 29-7.

The Blue Devils (9-24-1) scored their first two runs in the first inning. Singles by Tonja Royce (Forestville/Forestville) and Sarah Kiehl (Lancaster/Depew) preceded a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Livermore (Randolph/Randolph).

Sullivan brought home Royce with a sacrifice fly, while a wild pitched plated Kiehl.

Kiehl had three hits and Royce two hits in the game.

The Blue Devils dropped the opener, 3-0, and had only one hit, a fifth-inning single by Livermore.

Casey Mazurek (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was tagged with the loss despite striking out 12 and walking one.

The Blue Devils return to action with a doubleheader Tuesday at the University of Rochester.
